Dolores Introduces A New Chicken Chili

For over 35 years, Dolores Chili, often referred to as L.A.’s Favorite Chili (www.lasfavoritechili.com), has been stealing the show across Southern California. Since 1973, Dolores Canning has produced the frozen all-beef chili known as the Dolores Chili Brick.

Now, for the first time since its inception, there is a new brick to brag about. David Munoz, Dolores Canning Co. President and cousin Bert Munoz, Dolores’ Sales Manager will introduce a new Chicken Chili Brick this month.

The original, Beef Chili Brick’s new shelf mate is a 100 percent Chicken product, fully cooked and seasoned with the same Dolores spices that made the original brick famous.

“Our new Chicken Chili Brick is a great alternative for those who prefer chicken and it maintains a healthy balance. Our new chili has low sodium, low cholesterol and absolutely no MSG,” said David.

The original Chili Brick made of all-beef chili, completely spiced and ready for use is often to blame for a delicious scent filling the air near restaurants, fast food chains, hot dog and hamburger stands and chili cook-offs in So Cal and beyond.

The 20-ounce and five-pound packages of Dolores Chili Brick are currently sold in major grocery store chains such as Albertson’s, Food 4 Less, Vons, Ralphs and Smart & Final. The all-beef chili is also featured on Philippe the Original’s (downtown L.A.) menu.

The company plans to market the new Chicken Chili to their existing accounts in the same size packages. For the past three months the Chicken Chili has been in limited distribution at select foodservice accounts and at Bristol Farms locations.

The company also services a growing web clientele, “Each week we receive inquires from across the country requesting Dolores Chili,” said Bert." "Many people who grew up here in Southern California and now live in different parts of the country need to know how they can get their favorite chili from back home. This week alone we shipped orders of our famous Chili to Anchorage, Boston, and Chicago."

Eventually, they hope the Chicken Chili Brick will yield the same success the original Chili Brick has. For more information on Dolores Chili Brick, please visit our website at www.DoloresChili.com

Chili Brick no. 3 in LA area Meat Department Sales

According to Ralphs and Food 4 Less grocery stores, Dolores Chili Brick is the number three item sold in their meat department.

Just behind front-runners Oscar Meyer and Farmer John, the all beef, 20-ounce Chili Brick topped the sales reports at the end of the third quarter for the LA area.

“We’re starting to make a hype in grocery stores. When people don’t see our product, they’re asking for it, and when it’s there, they’re buying it,” said David Muñoz, Dolores Canning Co. president.

The Chili Brick’s continued popularity at Ralphs and Food 4 Less has placed it alongside top selling national brand items providing excellent value for consumers.

The frozen, fully cooked Chili Bricks are sold for $4.29, and one brick can serve four to six people.

The proven seller can be served in a bowl, topped on a dog, nachos or burger, paired with any main dish, or in various recipes calling for chili.

It is raved about on blogs, recipes, and Facebook and Twitter posts. Some fans, friends and followers say the chili is the base of their homemade recipes. Countless fans from around the country get their “Chili fix” weekly by ordering Dolores Chili online.

Dolores Canning Co., the manufacturer of the Chili Brick, sells its product in grocery chains beyond Ralphs and Food 4 Less. Two weeks ago, the company announced the expansion of its Chili Brick to all 325 Southern California Vons stores.

The brick is also sold in most Southern California grocery chains such as Albertson’s & Stater Brothers, as well as countless independents. Club stores & Foodservice stores like Smart & Final and Restaurant Depot carry the larger size, 5-pound tray. Restaurants such as Philippe the Original, in Downtown LA, feature the famous chili on their menu.

Distributors carry the chili and distribute to restaurant chains and independent establishments.

Dolores Canning Co. is a family owned, third generation and minority owned business. The company has been making the famous Dolores Chili Brick since 1954 at its East Los Angeles plant. Dolores Chili can be purchased direct on-line at https://dolorescanning.com/catalog/.

Dolores Chili Brick added to all SoCal Vons Stores

Dolores Chili Brick can now be found in the frozen meat department at all 325 Vons stores across Southern California, from Central California to the Mexican Border.
Although Dolores Chili has been sold at a limited number of Vons stores for the past 25 years, shoppers have had difficulty finding the famous Chili Brick in all Vons locations.  After years of customer requests, the decision was made to carry the Chili Bricks throughout the entire chain.
“We’ve enjoyed working with select Vons stores for years, but now it’s in all of them across Southern California,” said Dolores Chili’s president, David Munoz. “Consumers throughout the southland have called and asked why they couldn’t find the Chili Bricks in their local Vons store. Now we can direct them to any Vons store location. We're excited and we look forward to working closer with Vons.”
Dolores Canning Co., the manufacturer of Dolores Chili Brick, expects to begin sampling programs within the next week at several Vons stores. Dolores employees will present recipes and sample prepared Chili Brick, demonstrating ways to use the versatile product.
Dolores Chili Brick, an all-beef chili, is fully cooked and is sold frozen in the meat department. The great taste and ease of use is an alternative to traditional “canned” chili. The famous chili has been made in East Los Angeles since 1973 and is distributed throughout the West Coast. Each tray sells for $4.29 and will serve four to six people.

Chili Bricks are also sold to restaurant owners and operators at Smart & Final and Restaurant Depot behind freezer doors, and on Costco Wholesale’s on-line Business Delivery page.  Distributors across Southern California and nationwide also carry the Chili Bricks on their product lists and sell to restaurants, fast food chains and hamburger and hot dog stands.
Distributors who wish to add Dolores Chili Bricks to their product list should contact Munoz at sales@dolorescanning.com.
Dolores Chili is famous at Philippe the Original in Downtown L.A where it is served in a cup with crackers on the side.
Chilidogs, chili burgers, chili fries and the famous straight bowl of chili are the most common ways Dolores Chili is served.
Dolorescanning.com also sells the chili directly to consumers at www.dolorescanning.com/catalog.

Dolores Chili turns Bricks into Bucks: A 40-pound FREE case of chili can yield over $600 in profits

Summertime is the season of preparation for fall; athletes are working their hardest and school and community programs are practicing and preparing.

What do all have in common? The need to fundraise to help their programs succeed.

With this in mind, Dolores Canning Co. Inc., located in East Los Angeles, CA, has launched its “Bricks into Bucks” program to help youth sports’ teams, community organizations and clubs raise cash for their organizations.

The company will donate a case of Dolores Chili (eight, five-pound trays or 40-pounds) to any organization interested in selling chili cheese fries, chili Fritos, chili cheese nachos, or chili dogs or burgers in their snack bars.

With each new participant, Dolores Canning will demonstrate how to turn a 40-pound case of chili into over $600 in profits.

“It’s simple,” said Dolores Canning’s operations manager, David Muñoz. “They spend a little over $100 on supplies and chili, and we show them how to make $600 plus each time.” Although each organization's first try at selling Dolores Chili may yield more--the first case is free.

Little leagues, soccer organizations, high school booster’s programs, and school organizations can get the first 40-pound case of Dolores Chili free from Dolores. They can purchase each additional Dolores Chili at Smart & Final where the famous chili is sold in five-pound trays (or "Bricks"). The five-pound bricks, most popular for those running a snack bar, are $9.99 each.

Chili Fritos are the most popular snack bar item, which some know as “Pepper Bellies.” Add water (per directions) to one Dolores Chili Brick (five-pound tray) and the Chili Brick yields about 50, two-ounce servings. Add the cost of a box of 50, one-ounce Fritos (about $12) and that gives you a cost of about 44 cents per unit. Each Chili Frito bag can easily be sold for up to $2.00, so that’s a profit of about $78 on every Dolores Chili Brick five-pound tray.

In addition to free chili, each new participant will receive signs to promote chili sales at any snack bar, a suggested recipe, serving size and price sheet, as well as Chili Brick promo giveaways.

Last year’s participants put an ad for Dolores Chili in their program and made game/event day announcements thanking the company for its donations and help building profits.

Interested organizations can e-mail dave@dolorescanning.com to request their free case of Dolores Chili.

For more info please view the “Bricks into Bucks” info at www.LAsFavoriteChili.com

Dolores Chili Brick is also sold in retail size bricks at major grocery chains such as Albertson's, Food4Less/Ralphs, Stater Brothers, Vons, and in countless independent stores. Add Dolores Chili to the Memorial Day barbecue line-up

The unofficial start of the summer season is this weekend, and what a better way to kick it off than with a barbecue.

So fire up the grill, make some yummy appetizers, mix a batch of lemonade and invite over family and friends this Memorial Day weekend.

Dolores Chili Brick is a perfect match for many barbecue and backyard picnic items such as chili dip, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, or a straight bowl of “red.”

For chili dip, stir softened cream cheese into a pan of Dolores Chili Brick; continue stirring over heat until cream cheese is thoroughly melted and mixed with chili. Serve with Fritos, tortilla chips or crackers.

A Dolores Chili burger is a mouth-watering favorite. Season a quarter or half-pound patty and grill it to preference. Toast the flat side of the hamburger bun and top it off with Dolores Chili, diced onions and a slice of cheese.

For a Dolores dog, grill your favorite beef or polish hot dog, lightly toast the bun and top it off with Dolores Chili, onions and shredded cheddar.

Heat some nacho cheese on the stove or crock-pot; prepare one to two Dolores Chili Bricks, depending on the amount of guests, and then serve both over tortilla chips.

For the straight bowl of “red,” personal preference wins. Prepare some chopped onions, sour cream and shredded cheddar and let guests decide how to decorate their bowl.

Dolores Chili is sold in major grocery chains such as Food 4 Less, Ralphs, Albertson’s, Start Brothers, Smart & Final, and countless independent stores. The famous chili is also a hot item at Philippe The Original, in Downtown L.A. and is sold in various fast food restaurants and hot dog and hamburger stands across Southern California.

Technology and business didn’t use to meet often in the wholesale food industry.

However, two separate worlds have collided as distributors commonly offer products on-line with fixed delivery rates, and specials and discounts.

Costco Wholesale is one. The business delivery on-line store now features five-pound trays of Dolores Chili Brick for sale.

The shipping rate is $20 flat, but orders over $250 are shipped free.

Distributors, operators and owners of fast-food and sit down restaurants buy various restaurant supplies and foods from Costco at wholesale prices. Now, the all-beef, ready to thaw and serve Chili Bricks are another item to add to the list.

League organizations and individuals planning snack bar fundraisers or barbecues are also common users of the Dolores Chili Brick, and frequent shoppers of wholesale supply stores.

Restaurant Depot and Smart & Final also carry the five-pound Chili Brick trays, although the product is not available for on-line purchase through these distributors.

The Chili Bricks are sold in major grocery chains such as Food 4 Less and Ralphs and in countless independent stores. The famous chili is also a hot item at Philippe the Original in Downtown L.A., and is sold in hot dog and hamburger stands across Southern California.

Dolores Sponsors St. Luke’s Fiesta Chili Booth

Last week Dolores Canning Co. announced its new Chicken Chili Brick to its loyal fans and customers.

This week, the 100 percent chicken chili, which is low in sodium and cholesterol, will be for sale at St. Luke’s Fiesta to raise funds for the Temple City church and school.

The 23rd annual carnival, referred to as a Fiesta, will be held Friday-Sunday, April 23-25 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. A car show, carnival rides and games, live entertainment and great food will highlight the three-day event.

Dolores’ Chicken Chili will be served on such items as Chili Dogs, Chili Cheese Fries or a straight bowl of chili. Dolores has donated enough Chicken Chili Bricks to St. Luke’s to last all three days. St. Luke’s will keep all profits made from the sale of the chicken chili.

These types of donations are not uncommon for Dolores Canning Co. For decades the company has supported local community events and fundraisers. Earlier this month, the company donated enough of its all-beef chili to West Covina American Little League to support chili sales at the snack bar for most of the season. The league keeps the profits to pay for field maintenance and umpires.

Dolores Canning Co. has been famous for its all-beef chili since the Chili Brick's 1973 debut. Since then, the Dolores Chili has been sold in major grocery chains such as Food 4 Less and Ralphs, and in countless independent stores. The famous chili is also a hot item at Philippe The Original, in Downtown L.A., and is sold in various fast food restaurants and hot dog and hamburger stands across Southern California.

Dolores Introduces Chicken Chili

East Los Angeles-- For over 50 years, Dolores Chili, often referred to as LA’s Favorite Chili (www.lasfavoritechili.com), has been stealing the show across Southern California.

The famous 20-ounce Chili Bricks made of all-beef chlii, completely spiced and ready to thaw and serve, are often to blame for a delicious scent filling the air near restaurants, fast food chains, hot dog and hamburger stands and chili cook-offs in So Cal and beyond.

And for the first time since the Chili Brick’s birth in 1973, Dolores Canning Co. has a new brick to brag about. A 100 percent Chicken Chili Brick.

It’s a mix of chicken with a touch of Dolores’ family recipes and spices, which have made its original all-beef Chili famous.

David and his cousin, Bert Munoz, Dolores’ Sales Manager will introduce the Dolores Chicken Chili Brick within the next few weeks. hey plan to market the chicken chili to the same grocery chains as well as to local restaurants and will sell it in the same 20-ounce and 5 pound sizes as the Original Beef Chili Brick.

Eventually they hope the chicken chili recipe will yield the same success the original Chili Brick. Munoz says in a single week he receives scores of calls and emails from various distributors, grocery stores and individuals nationwide requesting Dolores Chili. Currently these requests are filled by the company's online store (https://dolorescanning.com/catalog/) where Chili fans across the nation can order and have shipped the famous Dolores Chili Brick. Dolores Supports Local Youth Sports

In the midst of today’s Great Recession, local non-profit youth sports organizations can often have a hard time ensuring cash inflow.

But, West Covina American Little League (WCALL) has had some help with that.

Dolores Canning Co., an East Los Angeles based, third generation, minority family business that makes and distributes its own famous Dolores Chili Brick has been sponsoring the league for the past 3 years.

And this year, the company took their generosity further and donated enough Dolores Chili for the entire Spring Little League season.

WCALL will sell the chili at the snack bar in various items such as chili cheese fries, chili cheese nachos, or chili cheese dogs and burgers. The league can profit at least $1,000 from this donation, according to Coach and parent volunteer Steve Nugent, who has a son in the minor league division.

“It’s a good product we’re getting, and the money we make goes toward safety equipment, umpires and field maintenance,” said Nugent. “These donations really make a difference in our program and in these kid’s lives.”

Dolores Canning has a history of supporting youth organizations including little league and soccer teams.

The company also supports local churches and schools and for over 25 years has been a charter member of the Los Angeles Unified School District Adopt-A-School Program. Visit www.DoloresChili.com for more information and news.

Easter Ham Paired With Dolores Chili

In the United States, ham is a traditional Easter food. Some people purchase their ham already made, while others bake it themselves with their own glaze or seasonings.

Ham became a tradition in the early days when meat was slaughtered in the fall. There was no refrigeration, and the fresh pork that wasn't consumed during the winter months before Lent was cured for spring. The curing process took a long time and the first hams were ready at Easter, resulting in ham becoming a popular Easter dish.

Years and years later, ham is still the center of many Easter brunches, lunches and dinners. Like Turkey on Thanksgiving, as the years go by, it needs some serious sides to keep things interesting.

So here’s a way to keep the ham flame lit; dress it up with chili. Sounds like a great idea, but who wants to cook chili in addition to the time spent preparing and baking the ham?

Dolores Canning Co., a Southern California company, who makes, packs and distributes its famous Dolores Chili Brick, provides a simple solution.

Dolores Chili Bricks are sold in two sizes: 20-ounce and five-pound trays. Each brick is ready to thaw and serve in a bowl with shredded cheddar or onion, or right on top of a few slices of ham. Feed every four people at your Easter gathering for about $5.

Major chain stores across Southern California such as Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Stater Brothers, and Albertsons sell individual Chili Bricks in the frozen meat section behind freezer doors or in the deli section. Each store varies. The Chili Bricks are also sold directly on-line at www.lasfavoritechili.com.

There’s only one Real “Chili Brick” and it’s made here in L.A.

It doesn’t come in a can or in a package; it comes frozen, in the shape of a brick.

It’s a Dolores Chili Brick.

Any fan of good chili knows that the term “Brick Chili” goes back to the days of the “old west” when trail cooks would pound dried beef, pepper, salt, and the chili peppers together into stackable rectangles which could easily be rehydrated with boiling water.  This amounted to “brick chili” or “chili bricks” that could be boiled on pots along the trail.  Well, since 1973, Dolores Canning Co. has been making its famous chili fresh at its East Los Angeles plant, packing it hot into a tray the size of a brick and then freezing it for distribution.

Other companies have tried to imitate and create their own chili bricks, but without success as Dolores Canning Co. owns the rights to the term “Chili Brick.” They may not be the only company who distributes chili away from the traditional can, but they’re the only company who can call it like it is; a “Chili Brick.”

The Chili Brick is miles from canned chili because of its shape and taste. It’s been raved about on-line at Eat-LA.com and chow.com, and most recently in The LA Times. Dolores chili is commonly served in restaurants in a bowl topped with onions or shredded cheddar, and is often paired with a dog, burger, fries or tamale.

Dolores Chili Brick is sold in two sizes (20 ounces and five-pound trays).  It’s sold in major chain stores throughout Southern California such as Food 4 Less, Ralphs, Smart & Final & Stater Brothers, as well as countless independents.  Each 20 oz. brick makes four servings or bowls of chili and can top about 10 dogs or six burgers.  When was the last time you fed a family of four for about $5?

For those outside Southern California, Dolores sells Chili Brick six packs direct on-line at www.RealChiliBrick.com . The company is currently seeking distributors outside California. Please contact dave@dolorescanning.com  for more information.

Everyone Loves Chili...Even the Stars

It’s Oscar season again and everyone has stars in their eyes. Some are hoping Morgan Freeman takes home the award for the Best Actor role in Invictus, while others are hoping to see George Clooney on stage grasping the gold for Up in the Air.

Oscar night is a big deal for many. Pools, parties, girls nights and dates are being planned. It’s a big entertainment night for Americans. What to wear? How to decorate? And the most important question, what to cook?

Eat like a star this year. Elizabeth Taylor, one of the most proclaimed movie stars of all time and a multiple Oscar nominee, including winner for her leading role in Butterfield 8, loved chili.

Taylor loved chili from Chasen's, a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California that was a hangout for many actors. Chasen’s was the site of the Academy Awards party for many years, and in 1962 Liz Taylor had several orders of Chasen’s chili flown to the set of Cleopatra while filming in Rome.

Chasen’s is no longer around, but Dolores Chili is. Often referred to as L.A.’s Favorite Chili, this chili doesn’t come in a can, but in a brick form. It’s an all-beef frozen chili packed hot and then frozen in the shape of a brick resulting in a Dolores Chili Brick.

Serve it in a bowl with shredded cheddar or diced onions, or on a burger, dog or with spaghetti noodles.

An article by Jenn Garbee, http://eat-la.com/short-list/julia-childs-oscar-eats/, references Dolores Chili as a sure item to spice up any Oscar plans.

Pick up Dolores Chili at Albertson’s, Food for Less, Cardenas, Costco, Ralphs, Stater Brothers or order on-line at https://dolorescanning.com/catalog
